An apple by the water, bread for a picnic, a thread to snip while away from home. Our pocket-size tools keep a simple purpose in a small space. A pocket knife with a straight or serrated edge, or folding scissors in a case: they carry familiar tasks beyond the house without taking the whole contents of a kitchen drawer with you.
Tools that fold, purposes that stay clear
The Nogent*** folding knife follows the principle of a paring knife: a small blade for peeling, trimming and cutting. Its 8 cm blade folds into the handle when the work is finished. It retains a clear purpose around the food you prepare and share outdoors, rather than trying to provide every possible function.
The blades are worked in our Biesles workshops, Haute-Marne. Choosing between a straight edge and serrations helps match the knife to the food you take with you. Folding scissors offer another use in a 96 mm format. Their stainless steel blades open for small cutting tasks, then the tool goes into its leather case. The reduced size gives a familiar tool a place in compact storage, without changing what you expect it to do. A smaller format can still have a straightforward, recognisable role.
Choose for the things you do away from home
For cheese, cold meats and firm fruit, the straight-edged pocket knife supports precise cuts. The version with 3 mm serrations helps enter skins and small crusts, including tomatoes, soft fruit and picnic bread. Think about the food you usually pack rather than choosing the blade by appearance alone.
Handles come in different finishes according to the model. Colour helps identify your knife, but the blade should suit the task first. Clean and dry it before folding it away. Storing the blade closed is part of how the tool is designed to be used.
Folding scissors complement smaller everyday actions: snipping thread, removing a label or finishing an alteration. Their case gives them a dedicated place. Choose for the situations you actually encounter. An outdoor lunch or a small sewing project does not require many tools, just the ones your hand feels comfortable using.
